Featured Artist...

My Featured Artist is the spectacular Here are a few of her Images, She is as sunny as the Island she inhabits, please check her gallery out:)

1: How long have you been taking photographs for and how did you first get involved in photography?

Ive only been taking photos for the last 4 months. ive always appreciated certain types of photography styles... such as minimalist, repetition in patterns, as well as images containing bright colours not so long ago.. i went through quite a bad phase in my life and getting into photography was one of things which helped me get the spark for life back.

2: You seem to have an "eye" for shapes colour and design, do you apply that eye to other creative persuits?
ive actually been painting for much longer... i often think of it as my primary passion, with photography followed by it, since i havent been doing it for so long. i also create other works besides paintings every now and then. heres the link:
3: Do you live near the sea? Or is *everywhere* in Malta near the sea ?
hehe.. yes everywhere is near the sea. Malta is quite a small island. theres lots of photo potential near the sea here... lovely mediteranean colours, scratched wood pieces,
typical maltese colourful boats, boat house....
i get very enthusiastic in such places
4: What was the name of the last book you read?
taschen book on Basquait .... very inspiring artist.. even though my style is more "neat".. id like to experiment with that style in my paintings....
5: What five things would you take with you if you had to spend the rest of your life on a deserted island?
always a tricky question this one....
i know id like to take a person with me .. if that were possible.... (cos otherise id have to paint a face on a ball and call it Wilson ) despite enjoying time on my own... i d like some company... even though after too much time together one of us would probably kill the other.. it would be a matter of who does it first ....
as 4 the other 4 things.. i am not sure... i just know there wont be a hair dryer...

DD and New Account

Wed Sep 27, 2006, 3:02 AM

:D I have to thank ^hesitation for selecting one of my photos as a Daily Deviation. It came as a complete surprise I am deeply overwhelmed and obviously really happy:D Big Cheesey grins aplenty happening down here in Sunny old Melbourne town :giggle:

******************************************************
I've started up a new Account

This is account will be devoted solely to textures..I see this being a parallel but fairly constant area for me to keep visiting as Im developing a growing calling for it. I've already uploaded about 20 photos to it and mainly it is to be viewed as a gallery collective rather than for individual photos. So take a look if you feel so inclined:D

Watching: La Nouba Cirque du Soleil

My Featured Artist is =ElectricWizard He lives in Melbourne and I enjoy his photography as he shows a dark side of Melbourne and presents places I know in a way I've never seen them. I hope you enjoy these small selection of some of his works and then take a look through his gallery:)

*Aquiel1. Do you have a favourite place where you like to go taking photos?

=ElectricWizardI'd say my favourite place to go and take photo's is probably Altona, around the Oil Refineries, there's something about that area that I'm drawn to. Especially at night time, when they fire up all of the smoke stacks (I'm sure because people would go nuts if they actually saw the pollution that was being pumped out during the day, it smells so bad there) and all the lights everywhere, it's quite surreal. I generally like the outer fringes of suburban Melbourne, I just need to do some more exploring, I don't get much opportunity to do it.

*Aquiel2 How long have you been digital?

=ElectricWizardI've been digital since the beginning. I started out playing with my Dad's camera, a Nikon Coolpix 5700 for one of my design subjects at Uni. I needed to keep a Visual Diary type thing so I thought I'd take photo's. My tutor really liked what I was doing and actually likened some of it to Bill Henon's work, who I'd never heard of at that stage. I checked out Bill Henson's photography and fell in love with it, which inspired me to keep taking photo's and take up a greater interest in photography.
In May last year I got my first camera, a Canon 300D which I use for all my work now. Everything I know is pretty much self-taught over the past year and a half or so. I'd actually like to move to some analogue work, perhaps get a Holga and a Polaroid seeing as I really like some of the results they can get, which I currently feel slightly ashamed for emulating in a few of my works in Photoshop.

*Aquiel3. Where would you like to see yourself 2 years from now, photographically speaking?

=ElectricWizardI'm not sure really, I'd probaby like to find more time to work on my photography. At the moment I'm considering studying it full-time at Uni or perhaps TAFE to begin with. I'd also like to look into a small exhibition somewhere in a local gallery. I'd like to see my work at a large size, and somewhere besides a computer screen.

*Aquiel4. What was the name of the main male actor in the movie "Fisherking"?

=ElectricWizardI believe it was actually Rex Hunt as the fisher, co-starring Elvis as the king.

*Aquiel5. What 5 things would you take with you to remote deserted island.

=ElectricWizard1. Some glue
2. A rope
3. A large wooden crate
4. MacGyver
5. An iPod/equivalent with my entire CD collection copied to it. So I could listen to it while MacGyver built a viking long boat (complete with vikings) to get me off the island. Of course it would need to be rushed to its completion in the last 2 minutes before the island was engulfed with lava and ash from the volcano on said remote deserted island.

FEATURED ARTIST

Elegant, eclectic and eloquent is how I would describe Audrey and her gallery. I like watching her as Im never sure what she'll present next. I hope you'll enjoy her gallery as much as I do:)

FEATURED ARTIST EXPOSED....
1. When did you first become interested in photography?

I always loved taking pictures with my point and shoot, but didn't have a serious interest in photography until I started looking for a good photographer to take my son's picture. He was about a year and a half old at them time (almost three years ago). When I realized how expensive the photographers I wanted were, I decided I'd be better off investing the money in a decent camera and doing it myself. I knew I had an eye for composition, it would just be a matter of learning the technical stuff. I fell in love with my camera and haven't put it down since. It didn't take me long to realize I finally knew what I wanted to be when I grew up!

2. I know that you work as a professional in the photographic industry, but have you ever exhibited or do you have plans to?

No, I haven't. I find the idea very appealing, but I have no plans to at the moment. (I need to shoot more that is not commisioned for work!)

3 Do you watch "Big Brother" ......*be honest, Audrey!*

Absolutely not! As a general rule, I hate reality tv. I'm not saying I've never been suckered into the occasional American Idol show with my husband, but I'm really not a fan of these long drawn-out shows where the contestents are forging these false friendships and no one is to be trusted. The everyday "drama" of it drives me crazy!

4. What would be your most favourite photographic genre?

I love people pictures! (Surprise!) Particularly those that show emotion or give you a sense of a moment or relationship between the subjects.

5.What 5 things would you take to a desert Island if you had to see out the rest of your days there?

This is impossible for me to answer! Everything I come up with when I give it more thought, doesn't make sense. I know if he wasn't with me, I would need a picture of my son. And I would like to say my camera/film/batteries (just in case the film was ever recovered and somehow still processable, i would love for there to be a visual record of what I saw and experienced). I'm sure there is something wise I should think of to aid in my survival, but my mind is blank... And this doesn't make sense at all, but I would love to have my lipbalm with me- It's such a habit for me to have it on all the time!
